Portland State University

Study Abroad Requirements:

Portland State University has a minimum GPA requirement of 2.75 for any student studying abroad.  PSU students with a GPA below this minimum may not be eligible to study abroad with CIMBA.  Please note that although the CIMBA admission requirements state a minimum GPA of 2.5, CIMBA will default to the requirements outlined by the home university.

The Application Process:

    1. PSU students must meet with an education abroad advisor before beginning any applications. To schedule an appointment, click here. The primary CIMBA advisor at PSU is Alyse Collins (see below).
    2. After meeting an advisor, students must complete both the Vikings Abroad online application and the CIMBA programs online application.
    3. PSU students are required to attend a pre-departure orientation.

Important Deadlines:

  • Fall program application deadline: March 15th
  • Spring program application deadline: October 15th

PSU students must adhere to the application deadlines of their home university.

Visa Information:

Due to the program length, US and EU citizens are not required to obtain a visa to study abroad with CIMBA.  PSU international students with other citizenship will need to obtain an Italian study visa for any CIMBA programs.

Course Equivalencies & Transcripts:

PSU Students should work with both the Education Abroad office and with their major department so that we ensure they can take the appropriate coursework while abroad.  Students will need to ensure that the CIMBA courses they wish to take are eligible to transfer back to PSU and will be accepted by their major department.

Transcripts will be available for request online at the conclusion of the program.  All credit for CIMBA coursework transfers to PSU as a full letter grade and will be calculated into the student’s overall GPA. For questions regarding transcripts, students should contact Alyse Collins (see below).

Payment & Financial Aid Information:

PSU students will pay all program fee directly to CIMBA at the University of Iowa (CIMBA’s accrediting university).  In addition to CIMBA fees, students should be aware that PSU does charge an Education Abroad fee and several other campus-related fees during the time abroad.  These fees are separate from CIMBA’s program fees and are not included in the overall cost.

For questions regarding study abroad financial aid, PSU students should contact Matthew Sagayaga (see below).
