CIMBA Financial Awards 

We are pleased to offer several scholarship and leadership opportunities to help you offset the cost of attending CIMBA. At CIMBA, we award hundreds of scholarships every year for our study abroad programs. You do not have to be accepted into a CIMBA program before submitting your applications for financial awards. As you review these opportunities, please note the deadlines for each individual scholarship. The deadlines below are final, so plan ahead to ensure your applications are submitted on time.  You will be notified of your award amounts after the application deadline for the award has passed, usually within 10 business days of the deadline.  The award will not post on your billing statement until approximately 30 days before the program start date.  


Merit-based Awards

  • Semester Average Range: $250 – $1,000
  • Summer Average Range: $100 – $500

To be eligible, you must have a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher. Click here to learn more and apply.

Need-based Awards

  • Semester Average Range: $250 – $1,000
  • Summer Average Range: $100 – $500

To be eligible, you must receive some form of financial aid (i.e. Stafford loan, Pell grant, etc.) to attend your home institution. Click here to learn more and apply.

CIMBA Adversity Awards

  • Semester: $2500
  • Summer: Not eligible

Thanks to the generosity of CIMBA’s alumni, faculty, and extended community, we are able to offer substantial study abroad awards to a select number of applicants.

These awards will be automatically applied to the student’s tuition owed upon admission to the program and may be combined with any other CIMBA financial award.  Total combined award amount may not exceed CIMBA’s total tuition cost. Student must commit to enroll to CIMBA in the semester indicated on their initial application to receive the award. CIMBA scholarship recipients will be asked to provide a short testimonial and photo upon successful completion of their semester abroad. 

To qualify for this award:

  • Submit a complete CIMBA application for a semester-long study abroad session (transcript exempt) by the preferred application deadline
  • Submit the award application form with applicable questions completed by the preferred application deadline
  • Meet CIMBA’s admission requirements
  • Be in good academic standing with home institution

Additional eligibility considerations include, but are not limited to:

  • Students from racial and ethnic backgrounds that are under-represented in study abroad
  • Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) students
  • Students with disabilities
  • Students with veteran status
  • Students who are the first in their family to attend college or university (“first generation” college students)
  • Students who have never owned a passport or traveled outside their home country
  • Students with a history of overcoming adversity
  • Students currently receiving substantial tuition assistance, such as the HOPE or Promise scholarships

CIMBA Resident Assistant

  • Undergraduate Semester: $3,000
  • Undergraduate Summer: $1,500

CIMBA seeks students with strong leadership experience to support the students on campus and serve as a role model. The primary function of a Resident Assistant (RA) is to promote and maintain a positive living environment that is conducive to academic achievement and personal growth, and is respectful of its residents. Blog Ambassador

  • Undergraduate Semester: $500
  • Undergraduate Summer: $250

Share your study abroad journey with family, friends, and prospective students by applying to be a CIMBA blog ambassador. Blog ambassadors document their CIMBA experience by posting a blog entry approximately once a week on the official CIMBA blog and contribute to the end-of-semester student yearbook. Social Media Award

    • Undergraduate Semester: $500
    • Undergraduate Summer: $250

Planning on posting about your time abroad on Facebook? Why not get paid for it! Through Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and Snapchat, the CIMBA Social Media students will share their experiences with family, friends, and prospective students. This position requires 5-10 posts per week on a variety of platforms. Click here to learn more and apply.

Video Media Award

    • Undergraduate Semester: $750
    • Undergraduate Summer: $350

CIMBA seeks a creative and motivated student to create several CIMBA and study abroad-themed video each semester.  Students will be allowed to choose their favorite format (vlog, time-lapse, etc) and create informational videos about various aspects of the CIMBA experience. Requirements range from 2-4 videos, depending on length of program, as well as a video yearbook project.  Click here to learn more and apply.

Refer-A-Friend

  • Undergraduate Semester: $500 per student
  • Undergraduate Summer: Not available

Refer a friend to study at CIMBA the same semester as you and we will grant both of you a tuition reduction!  When you refer a friend to study with CIMBA during the semester, both you and your friend will receive $500 off your total tuition amount. To receive this award, your friend must select “referred by friend” in the “How did you hear about the program?” field on his/her program application and enter your name in the blank space below as the person who referred him/her. Once both you and your friend have committed to attend the program, we will apply the discounts automatically. It’s that simple!

This award is available for semester programs only. CIMBA reserves the right to limit number of referrals applied to each student’s bill (maximum $1000 per student). Alumni are not eligible for retroactive awards. Students must study abroad during the same semester to receive referral award.

CIMBA Legacy Award

Because we know how much CIMBA impacts our students, we show our sincere appreciation for families who send multiple students to CIMBA by offering the following awards:

Undergraduate Semester:

  • $1,000 for 2nd student
  • $1,500 for 3rd student
  • $2,000 for 4th student

Undergraduate Summer:

  • $500 for 2nd student
  • $750 for 3rd student
  • $1,000 for 4th student

In return for the award, we ask that the student and/or parent give permission to be highlighted in our marketing materials. This is typically in the form of a testimonial about their experience with CIMBA which will appear on our website and/or in our newsletter. To qualify for the award, you must notify a staff person of the student status no later than 30 days after program acceptance and prior program attendance of siblings must be verified.
