Academic Experience at CIMBA

One of the most unexpected favorites of studying abroad at CIMBA has been the academic experience. Coming into the program, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect from the classroom side of things, but I’ve honestly loved every part of it.
The classes here are small, which has made a huge difference in how connected I feel. Not just to the material but also to the people around me. It’s really nice to be in such a close-knit learning environment. Everyone knows each other, making it super easy to make friends and build genuine and supportive relationships. We’ve all gotten so close through this experience, which has made being away from home a lot easier and more comfortable.
Having such small classes also means we get to build really strong relationships with our teachers. It’s a great way to get the most out of your classes because the professors are so approachable and genuinely want to help. I know lots of them offer time outside of class to meet up not just for schoolwork but sometimes even to grab a coffee or explore a museum together. It’s a new way to learn, and it makes the academic side of things feel much more personal and meaningful.
Another thing that makes academics here so enjoyable is how engaging the professors are. They genuinely care about what they’re teaching and how we’re learning it. Some of my favorite moments have been when the professors go off-script to tell stories, relate the lesson to real life, or just make us laugh. It’s very obvious they want us to succeed and they’re also just really fun to be around.
The opportunities CIMBA gives us outside the classroom are also amazing. We had a company tour that was super insightful and helped us see how business operates in a different cultural context. There have also been many guest speakers who’ve come in to share their experiences and give us thoughtful, real-world advice. It’s a great way to learn more about Italian culture and the professional aspects of our town while also being able to acknowledge their input and apply it to our lives in the business world.
It’s also cool how the academic environment at CIMBA blends with the overall experience of living in Italy. We’re learning so much inside the classroom, but we also take what we learn there and continue to use it during our travels, connections, and overall experiences. Whether it’s through cultural discussions in class or reflecting on how different everything feels, it all ties together the experience. I’ve found myself thinking more deeply about global perspectives, communication styles, and how to adapt to new situations.
Overall, the academic side of this program has helped me grow just as much as the travel and cultural side has. It’s a balance I really appreciate. You’re not just sightseeing all the time you’re genuinely learning, forming relationships that will last forever, and developing skills that stick with you.
If you’re a future CIMBA student, I’d definitely say to embrace the academic experience. Get to know your professors, participate in class, and appreciate the small, supportive environment. It’s one of the best parts of the program, and it makes everything else feel more meaningful.
