Exploring Germany

Written by Cassie October 10, 2013

This Sunday marks my forth week for being in Paderno del Grappa. It is so hard to believe that one fourth of my study abroad is already over. This past weekend a large group ventured up to Oktoberfest in Munich Germany, which was definitely an experience. Since many hostels were booked up beforehand, we ended up staying at a campsite. This was completely new to me, because I have never gone camping before in my life.

On Saturday the campsite provided buses to Oktoberfest, which was only a twenty-minute ride. Oktoberfest is something that I will remember for the rest of my life. However, it was not what I was expecting at all. It was set up like a fair with many rides, different types of food, and games. I have to mention, the best food at Oktoberfest was hands down the pretzels. The pretzels were as large, if not larger, than a steering wheel.

The only downside to Saturday is that it was pouring down rain the entire time, which made for a very cold, and wet day. Along with this, sleeping in tents that night at the campsite was definitely a struggle, because of the weather. Sunday morning a few of us decided to head into mainland Munich to wander around for the day. I was completely blown away, and was not expecting Munich to be such a beautiful place. All of the buildings have incredible architecture, and a few even looked like palaces. After a few more hours of sightseeing it was time for us to catch the bus back to Paderno. Overall, it was a great weekend and I would love to return to Munich in the future.

As for future travel plans, this upcoming Friday marks the start of our first travel week! For this approaching week, fifteen of us are traveling around Europe. We leave Friday night for Paris, and are staying there until Monday morning. Next, we head to Dublin for two days, followed by London for two days, and lastly, we are in Amsterdam for two and a half days. I am absolutely thrilled about this trip, and it cannot come soon enough. Until then, it is going to be an adventure trying to pack a weeks worth of clothes into a small duffle bag.. wish me luck! Ciao!
