Italy is calling!

Written by Jennifer September 9, 2014

Okay- so here we go: my pre-departure blog. I am currently sitting at my family’s kitchen table in Florida just day dreaming of a place with the temperature below 90 degrees. My biggest dilemma in study away prep has been packing, well the procrastination that keeps getting in my way of packing. I am so pumped to go- but the organization and energy – ugh! I know, rough. My sisters have left and all of my friends are back at school making memories, so it has just been me and my parents. The last one in the nest. Just me and them. Hey I think I just found some packing motivation! First things first, the list.

My mom has encouraged me to jot down some ideas of how I think this experience will be and my goals prior to lift off. Alright- attention all, my list:

Places to Visit:

Venice

Florence

Rome: The Vatican

Tuscany

Sicily

Cinque Terre

I hope to make new friends and to be constantly experiencing new adventures! I’m really pumped to hike the mountain on campus! Perhaps it has been all those Nature Valley commercials- a mountain top view just seems like the antithesis of freedom. At Furman the campus is sitting on the edge of Paris Mountain, so that will be a nice parallel to have.

Is it weird that I’m also looking forward to classes? I think they should be fun! Should I not be admitting this? I am enrolled in CIMBA’s LIFE and LEAP program which provides hands on mentorship and development. I don’t think I’ve ever taken a course like this, so it definitely should be interesting.

Map of Italy and Passport

Oh- I hope to not be completely broke by the end of the semester. That is a goal…or more of a rule.

I think this will be an experience of a lifetime and I can’t wait to lift off! This time next week…I’ll be in Italy- crazy.

Fino alla prossima volta,

Jenny
