Pizza Party

Written by Ellen February 22, 2013

Ciao! This week I attended my first Date with a Professor with Professor Bunnell to a pizzeria in Asolo. Like a typical American, my idea of a pizzeria consisted of Papa John’s, Pizza Hut, and if I’m feeling creative, Papa Murphy’s. Sure, I’ve been to a few more authentic pizzerias, but when someone says pizza I imagine garlic bread, pepperoni, fountain drinks, and a crew of people dressed in matching polo shirts asking me for my address. One short bus ride later and my standards have greatly risen.

The pizzeria owner greated us at the door with a handshake, piacere, and a glass of prosecco. From then on it was a whirlwind of information as he spewed facts about proper crust conditions and ingredients, finding the best temperature without a thermometer, and multiple stories worthy of bragging rights including making hundreds of pizzas in one day. His personal record? 276  pizzas! Below is one of many pictures I have of him, but the one similarity between them all are his hands: they never stopped moving.

With fresh ingredients, locals, and great faculty and friends, this expereince was one of my favorites so far!
