Hidden Gems of the Treviso Region

Written by Chris Brummett February 28, 2018

Now that I’ve had some time to settle in at CIMBA and into my new home in Paderno Del Grappa, I’ve come to see the benefits of living in a small town while studying abroad.

While there are obvious drawbacks when it comes to things like nightlife and logistical issues such as getting to the airport, the fact that PDG is located in such a diverse region really lessens any jealousy you may feel when experiencing the large, metropolitan cities in which your friends may be studying. For this reason, I’ve chosen to highlight some of the gems of the Veneto region in this blog post.

Venice:

Being only an hour away makes it an obvious destinations for students at CIMBA and I am looking forward to making my way to the canal-filled city at some point this semester, but I’ve had great experiences in the smaller towns surrounding Paderno Del Grappa as well.

Asolo:

An extremely hilly and scenic town about 15 minutes away from our home base of CIMBA. Upon arriving it becomes apparent why this tiny town in northern Italy is on a list of 1000 Places To Visit Before You Die.  Asolo has some of the best views you’ll find, as well as beautiful, winding streets that are reminiscent of something out of a Charles Dickens novel.

Recently, a large group of us got to go on a CIMBA arranged trip to Asolo and it was a great way to see one of the less touristic cities of Italy. There was a terrific gelato spot in the middle of the town square and a pub that gave us a look at some of the first cheeseburgers we’d seen in weeks.

Bassano Del Grappa:

Another great surprise of the region which provides some of the nightlife that may be lacking in the more humble Paderno Del Grappa.

CIMBA has arranged several trips to Bassano for students so far and it’s a good time every time.  The city is quite large and there is a nice restaurant and bar scene in one of the main piazzas with great views, near what I believe is a large church. Bassano is also home to our closest train station and the most efficient way to get to Venice from Paderno, so I look forward to getting to know the city better.

Mount Grappa:

One hidden gem of the Treviso region I haven’t been able to visit yet is Mount Grappa.  I know a student who hiked it during one of the early weekends in PDG and enthusiastically endorsed the views that could be seen from the top.

Hopefully this post shows you that the Treviso region is more than just the Institute Fillipin and the pizzeria in PDG. I am now off to Amsterdam for the weekend and can’t wait to hear all the stories from everyone at CIMBA about where they explored this weekend. Ciao!
