The Classroom Experience

Field Trip to Villa Masser

Field Trip to Venice

Perhaps one of my favorite things about my experience at CIMBA so far has been the professors here. While there are so many other things to be doing in  Italy, my professors have made every second of class meaningful and the lessons they teach intentional.

In my international financial accounting class taught by Dr. Tim Shaftel, we’ve learned about far more than just international accounting standards and the hundreds of differences between accounting systems worldwide. One of Dr. Shaftel’s primary focuses in class has been on the subject of decision making because  he feels that it will be useful to every student for the rest of their personal and professional life. Applying his model for decision making, he even treated us to coffee and pastries and took us on a field trip to Venice!

For Dr. Kelly Welch’s class on financial management, he has utilized what he calls, “board room concepts” to emphasize material that will be important for all of us to remember in our business futures. This is a way that Dr. Welch has been able to identify critical points of the class and even hint to us what will be on our exams. I’ve enjoyed hearing his “board room concepts” because when you’re taking a semester’s worth of material in four short weeks, they truly help manage the material a little more easily and keep you organized.

Finally, Professor Paul Mason (who isn’t even one of my professors here at CIMBA) offered to take me with him on a trip this weekend with his family to the top of Mt. Grappa just to be friendly! CIMBA offers a unique experience to connect with your classmates and professors in a new setting and experience the classroom in a way that’s a lot different than at home. I’m extremely happy to have had the opportunities here to build relationships with these professors and couldn’t have asked for better instructors.

It’s hard to believe that already we’re halfway done but I know the next two weeks will be just as full of  opportunities to learn and grow and build relationships. I couldn’t be more excited!
