A CIMBA professor and his
family explore Europe!

Welcome to CIMBA

CIMBA’s combined focus on academics, leadership development, and international exposure sets us apart as a premier study abroad program. We encourage you to visit different sections of this website to read more about CIMBA’s unique educational philosophy.

Not a current consortium member? No problem! We regularly accept students from other institutions and work carefully with them to make sure they have a successful academic experience. We ask that students meet all the requirements of their home institution, in addition to CIMBA’s requirements. We are here to help make your job easier as well as to help the student! The U.S.-based staff members are easy to access and will help communicate any institution requirements to the student, whether he or she is in the process of application, acceptance, pre-departure, or working through a special circumstance. Please read through the following topics for more information. Please contact cimba-italy@uiowa.edu if you have questions.

If you would like to explore joining the Consortium, please contact Stephanie Schnicker. We would be happy to speak with you about the process and the benefits of becoming part of our Consortium. Additionally, if you would like literature to help promote CIMBA to students on your campus, please visit our outreach materials page.

Student Requirements

Application and Acceptance

Students apply directly to CIMBA through our website. We make every effort to remind students that they are responsible for gaining approval from their home institution to study with CIMBA in addition to being accepted by CIMBA. This may include an application or approval from an individual department, college, study abroad or international services program, advisor, or other entity. If you are working with a current student, please contact any of our Iowa City staff members to help us understand the requirements of your institution. Working cooperatively on behalf of the student always yields the most successful results!

Course Credit

All course credit is issued by the University of Iowa. CIMBA operates out of the Henry B. Tippie College of Business, which has continually held its accreditation from the American Association of Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) since 1923. Course syllabi are available to provide students the tools they need to verify course equivalency at their home institution. CIMBA prides itself in offering core coursework for select majors so students can stay on track to graduate while also studying abroad in a premier destination. We offer major coursework in accounting, finance, marketing, management, economics, communications, journalism, and summer coursework in engineering. All students are instructed to gain course approval from their academic advisor before registering for CIMBA coursework.

Transcripts

The University of Iowa offers transcript copies free of charge for each CIMBA student at the conclusion of the program and final grade posting. These are typically available within two weeks of the end of the traditional University of Iowa semester schedule, which differs from the CIMBA session dates.  Transcripts can be sent electronically via email or a paper copy by mail.

Financial Aid and Scholarships

All CIMBA students currently receiving any grants, loans, or scholarships are instructed to check with their home institution’s financial aid office. The student should notify the office that they plan to study with CIMBA in Italy to verify exactly what financial aid will apply. Program costs can be deferred until financial aid is released; this deferral starts with a simple financial aid verification form, which is completed by the financial aid office at the student’s request.

CIMBA also offers scholarships and awards directly to students. We offer need and merit awards in addition to reciprocal service scholarships, such as blog or social media ambassadors and resident assistants.

For more information about CIMBA’s financial aid, scholarship, and payment process, please visit our admissions and aid section.
