Exploring Global Business and Marketing Strategies

Molly Rapert associate professor of marketing at the University of Arkansas, has taught Marketing Strategies for MBA students and The Global Consumer in CIMBA’s summer study abroad program for 15 years. Her global consumers course focuses on business life in Italy, United Kingdom, China, sub-Saharan Africa, Brazil, India, and Eastern Europe. Recently, she took students on a corporate visit to Dalbello, one of the world’s leading innovators of freestyle and snowboard boots. Students identified key sources that could be used to drive product design in the future, drawing primarily from other industries. “I also invited a guest speaker from an Italian company that does business in China,” she said. “Students had to analyze the information, not simply from a marketing point of view, but from a ‘way of life’ perspective. We also analyzed Africa’s Invisible Children, looking at their ‘boots on the ground’ operations in Uganda. One of my CIMBA students was so motivated by this that she actually moved from South Carolina to California to apply for a job with the organization!”
